Anchoredman

Did I somehow miss where Anchorman was supposed to be screamingly funny? I mean, there were some funny bits in there, and I laughed out a loud a couple of times, but … I felt like it was trying too hard most of the time, going for the goofball quotes that people would be using later on with their friends.

And before you jump all over me, this isn’t some “I hate Will Ferrell” thing. I thought Old School was insanely funny.

I Love Luke Danes

If you’ve been around me over the last nine months, or if you’ve read this Weblog consistently during that time, you know that I’ve fallen in love with Gilmore Girls. I want to thank the .net for getting me into this show, and I especially want to thank Kari for talking with me for as much as I wanted to talk about old episodes as I worked to catch up with last season. I didn’t make it before the finale, but I did finally watch them all [save one episode, which I've got sitting on my TiVo right now, waiting for the last 45 minutes of the Blogathon].

Having spent all this time watching a girly show and not letting it affect my personal conception of who I am, I will now go further and admit to a man-crush for the first time in IJSM.org history:

I love Luke Danes.

Luke Danes wears plaid shirts rolled up to the sleeve. [See also: me in high school.] Luke Danes always wears a baseball cap. [See also: me outside of work.] Luke Danes likes to let his facial hair go scruffy. [See also: me the last 2+ years.] Luke Danes likes to work with his hands. [See also: all the carpentry projects plotted for the house.]

Yeah, I pretty much love Luke Danes. I’d like to be him, in many ways … and yes, having a Lauren Graham-esque girlfriend would be a perk of that. ;)

[And I typically don't go for skinny girls.]

So … yes, Kari. I’ll admit my man-crush for Luke Danes. Why? Because all the world should come to know Luke Danes.

[I will now wait for Josh to come along and tell us that we're ruining the show. ]

Anything is Funny After 21 Hours

You know, I never thought much of Beavis and Butt-head, but I figured that it would be good for a laugh or two in these last few hours.

And they’re totally mocking “Black Hole Sun” … which is a song I actually like. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen B&B make fun of a song I’ve ever heard of before. Poor Soundgarden…

“Shut up, Bunghole.”

Howie’s Nominations

Well, I’m impressed that Howie decided that he really did need James out of the house. Putting Sarah up against James just makes it harder for him to stay in the house. If you want James out, those are your picks.

I thought Howie might put Maggie up earlier, but … interesting choice. Good job by Maggie to bargain to stay around.

I love that James has been scheming all this time and finally got his return. But Howie did do a smart thing by letting Maggie sweat it out.

Way to go, Clownie!

BB6: Bedroom Confessional

I had no idea that the first half of the show all took place the night after Howie won HOH. Man, everyone was up his rear end really, really fast.

Rachel is right to be mad at Howie for playing his cards too fast, because James will likely get wind of it. [Probably from Janelle if it will work to her advantage. I don't know why people think she's trustworthy, because she's a lone wolf in this game right now! Her partner can't come back, so she has to play it alone.] And Howie’s blame-shifting because Rachel left the room? Inexcusable.

If you wondered why Howie was still single … now you know.

Way to Go, Howie!

I love how Howie is playing James and Sarah. It’s a beautiful thing.

I love how James is just so certain he’ll be back next week to put Eric back out of the house.

Rachel makes a great point about letting Eric & Maggie oust James, but … the America’s Choice vote is so unpredictable. I’m hoping that BB6 viewers, realizing that Eric would be the most polarizing force to return to the game, will do that. I figure that it’s either him or Kaysar, because … I mean, who wants to see Michael back in the game? You didn’t get to see enough of him this week.

I can’t believe that Howie promised Maggie that James and Sarah will be his nominees, even before the Food Competition. That’s really early to make such a serious promise to such a strong player.

Howie’s working out just about as awesome as I thought he’d be. He totally reminds me of my boy James Kodrowski.

Be Bold!

I’m so disappointed that Rachel and Janelle sat there and tried to talk Howie out of his smartest play, which is go get rid of James. James is a threat to everyone in the house, and while he’s a strong player, he’s also polarizing—you can always get enough votes to get him out.

I can’t believe that people can’t figure out that alliances shouldn’t last more than three weeks in this game. It drives me up the freakin’ wall!

BB6: My Vote is Eric

I’ll tell you: in the America’s Choice polling to bring back one of three evicted houseguests, I am so pulling for Eric to come back.

I think Cappy brings a fun dynamic to the house.

I can’t believe that everyone’s all, “We miss Kaysar,” when he left the house 7-1. If you miss the guy, why didn’t you vote for the guy?

I’m also hoping for Howie to recognize that his alliance really only has another week or two left in it. Honestly, both alliances are going to fall apart in a couple more weeks because the numbers will just dictate that. I’m hoping that Howie will be smart enough to nominate the strongest players on both alliances—James and Maggie—and let the chips fall where they may.

It’s Big Brother 6 Time!

Oh yeah … Big Brother 6 is about to start. I need something to do right about now … I’m in a slump, and I need some TV that has regular breaks in it. I’ll just stop and post when I get to a break.

I’m still scaring myself with that gaffe last hour where I almost missed a half-hour posting. I didn’t realize how close I was until after I hit Publish and Ctrl-Tabbed to the window I have running the front of IJSM.org to see all my entries.

Man, at this point, typographical errors are becoming more common. This is the 48th entry since 0800, which means I’ve been posting at double the minimum rate, but … as I approach the second half of the Blogathon, I know that the toughest parts are yet to come.

I should have one more post in me before I start up BB6. [BB6 will be good for at least two or three entries.]

I wonder where my true “wall” is going to be. I’m betting it’ll be close between hour 16 and hour 18.

Too Real World

For reasons unbeknownst to me, I watch The Real World. I didn’t watch it when I was in MTV’s prime demographic. I don’t really even know why I watch it now … but I do. It’s a total traing wreck.

And man … Danny having to suddenly find out this week that his mom died? That sucked. The TWoP recap came up on FeedLounge for me just now, and … reading it all over again just made me feel for the guy.

I mean, it’s goofy enough to go on this lame show, but to have a family member die while you’re supposed to be off having the best booze-filled time of your life? Total buzzkill. Add that to the complete creaming he got in a fight the first week in Austin, and this guy’s just been dealt a crappy hand. I hope he doesn’t fold.

Thank God for TiVo

Otherwise, I’d be stuck watching Radical Jack on local TV.

Man … who knew that anyone ever decided that Billy Ray Cyrus should act? I wish nobody’d told my achy breaky heart.

[And yes, I know I'm evil for putting that song in your head. I'm just sharin' the wealth, baby.]

Tracking the Psychosis

In order to fully understand the depth of my psychosis, I’ve put every episode of Law & Order into my local install of Tasks and marked off everything that I know I’ve watched.

There’s something strangely satisfying in that. And yes, I’m a geek.

L&O Psychosis

Is it a sign of extreme emotional disturbance if I’ve downloaded an episode list of all 15 seasons of Law & Order and are using that list to whittle down the list of episodes I’ve already seen to find the ones that I haven’t?

TiVo Guided Setup via Internet

If you’re like me and already have a TiVo but move and don’t have a phone, you may find yourself needing to go through Guided Setup again. [That's my case---I've added a digital cable box to my TiVo today now that I have the cable I need.] How do you avoid having to use a phone to repeat Guided Setup?

Enter ,#401 for your dialing options. [That's pause enter 401.] It’ll go through the network rather than looking for a phone line.

Here’s hoping I can leverage my decent PageRank to provide a solution to people’s questions.

PLEASE NOTE: If this is your first time through Guided Setup—that is, you’re just out of the box—this probably won’t work. You can always give it a try, though. If it won’t work for you, just find a friend that has a phone line you can borrow for a half-hour.

I’ve disabled comments, but you can Pingback and Trackback this entry if you see fit.

My Poor TiVos!

TiVos like to connect to the Internet regularly. Deprive them of this ability, and they get testy. Every time I’ve gone into the ToDo List the last few days, they’ve said, “HEY! WE WANTS THE INTERNET, PRECIOUS!” [Hey, I never saw that movie ... why am I paraphrasing it?] Anyhow, the nice Knology installer just got everything hooked up here, and so as soon as I got the network back up and running, I forced an update for the living room box. Poor thing was so starved for data, this update’s going to run well over 30 minutes, instead of the usual 5-6 minute run.

Thankfully, though, I have a working connection set again here at home … and soon I get to tear it all apart and put it somewhere close to a final set of positions for it all. [Blast there not being a cable drop in the loft.]
