Here’s your Sunday reading for today:
- Challenges in Replicating Charter School Success [nytimes.com]. Shocker: educating kids is still hard work, and charter schools that cut corners underperform. Please note: I am pro charter schools, and have been for some time.
- More on the iPad as Photo Portfolio [photofocus.com]. This was my justification for buying one, at least in terms of a business use case. [Not that I wouldn't have bought one otherwise.] The photos I took of Sandra McCracken back in February are totally on my iPad right now.
- An Annotated Letter from Roman Polanski [idlewords.com]. I love me a good fisking, and damn if Maciej didn’t come up with an all-time classic here.
- What Happened When I Went Undercover at a Christian Gay-to-Straight Conversion Camp [alternet.org] Cringeworthy. I do not believe in the “ex-gay” movement. I’m still conflicted about this issue, but I choose to love people.
- Kubrick [vanityfair.com]. This is Michael Herr‘s homage to working with Stanley Kubrick. How Herr feels about Kubrick is quite ambiguous, honestly. Kubrick seems to be at least as complex as his creative output.
- The Itch [newyorker.com]. Two things about this: 1) It will make you itch and 2) the medical details within are not for the squeamish. That said, it seems to be that itch is as much about the absence of signals as it is about the presence of signals. The brain, it is a complex organism.
