Geof’s New Music: 10-16 Feb 2008
Never got around to posting this last week. Crazy week. :sigh:
The Weepies’ Happiness. I didn’t like this nearly as much as Say I Am You, but it’s still pretty good. Three-and-a-half stars.Tom Brosseau’s Late Night at Largo. I can’t even give you a procurement link for this, because you have to purchase it mail-order direct from his management. It’s worth getting, though. Four stars.
Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti. It’s not IV, but it’s still very, very enjoyable. I mean, “Kashmir” is just epic.- 3 Mar 1982 [New York, NY, USA] concert bootleg of George Strait. Surprisingly good, given the vintage. Three-and-a-half stars.
1982-03-03: Lonestar Cafe, New York, NY, USA. - 19 May 1990 [Columbia, MO, USA] radio recording of Uncle Tupelo. Nice to have for completionist purposes, but man … whoever did the studio recording stunk.
1990-05-19: KCOU-FM, Columbia, MO, USA. - 12 Aug 2002 [New York, NY, USA] concert bootleg of Coldplay. Desperately needed a bass roll-off in order to stand a chance of sounding good. I’ve made my share of recordings that sound like this, and they remind me why I just upgraded my equipment. One-and-a-half stars.
2002-08-12: Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY, USA (disc 1) and
2002-08-12: Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY, USA (disc 2). - 16 Dec 2007 [Cincinnati, OH, USA] concert bootleg of Over the Rhine. Sounds like an omnidirectional mic in a bad part of the room. Distant, echo-y, blah. Two stars.
2007-12-16: St. Elizabeth, Cincinnati, OH, USA.
I really will post what I’m listening to this week today…
