Geof’s New Music: 3-9 Feb 2008
Back more towards normality here…
Led Zeppelin’s IV. This is the Zep record I loved the most. It’s just plain fun. Four-and-a-half stars.
Lifehouse’s Who We Are. NEXT! Two stars.
Nathan Lee’s Down at The Rutledge. Unfortunately, my obsession with The Weepies hasn’t given this album much breathing room, but it’s very good. Lee is derivative—owing to Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen—but he’s also very energetic. His live shows are great. “Back Yard in Brooklyn” is a great song. Four stars.- 16 Aug 1996 [New York, NY, USA] concert bootleg of Blues Traveler. Sadly, the sound quality is below what I like. Two-and-a-half stars. MusicBrainz entries:
1996-08-16: HORDE Festival, Downing Stadium, Randall's Island, New York, NY, USA (disc 1) and
1996-08-16: HORDE Festival, Downing Stadium, Randall's Island, New York, NY, USA (disc 2). - 15 Sep 2004 [St. Louis, MO, USA] concert bootleg of Wilco. Just didn’t grab me. Three stars. ["At Least That's What You Said" and "Pot Kettle Black" are both good cuts.] MusicBrainz entry:
2004-09-15: Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO, USA.
31 Jan 2008 [Seattle, WA, USA] concert bootleg of The Decemberists. This is 2008, and we get recordings like this?! Two-and-a-half stars. MusicBrainz entry:
2008-01-31: The Moore Theater, Seattle, WA, USA.
31 Jan 2008 [Nashville, TN, USA] concert bootleg of Andrew Osenga. This is 2008, and we get recordings like this?!
I’m seriously disappointed with myself for this one. It’s a step back. It’s one reason I bought new mics this week with my tax refund. Two-and-a-half stars. MusicBrainz entry:
2008-01-31: The Covenant School, Nashville, TN, USA.
I’ll list this week’s new stuff here after while.
