I don’t have the Swap Tunes application and I didn’t have any directories (or subdirectories) named iTunes_Control* other than the original private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control directory. So I …

1. Fresh sync to backup my phone
2. Copied private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control directory to my computer (as a backup; took forever; didn’t need)
3. Deleted the iTunes_Control directory on my phone
4. Turned off my phone and closed iTunes
5. Turned on my phone and opened iTunes
6. Selected the most recent backup to restore my phone

The extra “Other” data disappeared. One simple sync later and my music’s back.

NOTE: I’ve been syncing with multiple computers (home and work) for over a year and this issue just popped up in the last month.

Deleting the iTunes_Control” folders located at User >> Media >> iTunes_Control folder in iPhonebrower worked perfectly. Just deleted the folder, they opened up itunes and did a restore. got all of my space back, but had to reload my music and movies. but all apps and settings were still in place, thanks guys!

Mike F your help worked a treat, oh and to all the people wondeing where the folders and files are that mike is refferring to, they are on hour iPhone and can only be accessed through an ssh browser after your iPhone is jailbroken, otherwise just restore. Once again thanks mike!

Hi all regarding the solution proposed by Mike F

IPHONE 2.2 FIRMWARE:

1. Delete any “iTunes_Control” folders located at User >> Media >> iTunes_Control
2. Hook up your phone to iTunes again. It will ask you to set up as a new phone or do a restore.
3. Select set up as new phone. Re-sync your music and videos. All your apps and settings will stay.

I do not have swaptunes, nor do I have iTunes_Control_2 app installed, and yet I also have 4GB of ‘other space’ now that my 4GB of music AND video, have all disappeared. The music and video is visible in iTunes library but any attempt to sync does not work, nothing gets transferred (pleanty of space for it). So removed all muci form library and uoloaded new music files and they sync fine. But still have 4GB of ‘other’ space.

I had the same problem, but I have 2.1, I fix it deleting a folder called iTunes_Control_2, you need to ssh you iphone and go to private/var/mobile/media and you will see a folder names iTunes_Control and other named iTunes_Control_2, you need to delete the folder iTunes_Control_2. I hope i can help somebody.

I don’t have the swaptunes, but still facing teh same problem. I have around 3.8GB used space by “other”. I had unlocked my phone. My only wory is that if I restore, I’ll have to unlock once again. Any advice?

This is fantastic advice… Swap Tunes is the culprit again in my case… played around with it, then did an uninstall and hey – presto, I have all my space back. Its been doing my head in for months now… as I had lost 5Gb and no one could tell me why! My ipod feature is back & I love it! I was unsure if it was the way the phone had been unlocked but no!…
Best damn invention yet these phones…

same problem!!!!!!!
males me sick restoring all the time…
it makes me crazy it changes its behavior, even it is the same custom firmware!!!

cannot it be i am using diferent carrier as the one that is selected for my country????
