Geof’s New Music: 14-27 Jan 2007
As I’ll be out of town most all of this week, I’ll declare this to be the stuff for the next two weeks and go on with things. I … really don’t have the energy to say anything else.
M. Ward’s End of Amnesia is up next in the month of M. Ward.- 5 Jan 2007 [Sydney, Australia] concert bootleg of M. Ward.
Here’s the obligatory link to the prior week.
M. Ward’s Post-War.
M. Ward does it again. Or, well, did. Admittedly, I haven’t delved so deeply into this album as the others, but I’ll put my copy in the CD-player in my car before I head to Tennessee today. Four stars.- 30 Jul 2005 [Denver, CO, USA] concert bootleg of Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan just hasn’t attracted a great community of tapers yet. I’m admittedly spoiled by Wilco tapers who’ll hit every show in their area with prime taping gear. They inspire me to become a better taper, and I wish that Sufjan’s fans would be similarly inspired. If nothing else, listening to this flat recording should be a kick in the pants. Two stars. [Which isn't to say that I don't appreciate some taping over none, because I do.]
- 13 Oct 2006 [Portland, OR, USA] concert bootleg of Sufjan Stevens. This is like a dream: there’s this guy known as “13″ or “mixwell” somewhere on the West Coast that does this truly awesome job of mastering concert recordings. He seems to excel with soundboard-audience matrixes, which are generally going to be the best recordings you can find. [A soundboard patch is going to provide you the best recording of the artist's renditions, and an audience recording is going to give you the fullness of sound of the room and the crowd reactions.] It’s recordings like these that make me want to take up a second job so I could spend $5,000 on recording gear. As it is, I’m trying to work towards getting a second MicroTrack this year so I can do my own SBD-AUD matrixes, or perhaps two-AUD matrixes when the room just won’t support a SBD. I need better mics and a longer fast prime lens first, though. Anyhow … this is a great recording of a great show. Four stars.
