Geof’s New Music: 3-9 Dec 2006
Gosh, yes, I’m behind. Last week was hard but full of growth, and this week is going in the same direction. It’s just … I dunno. Moving on.
Here’s what I listened to last week that was new to me, which I will comment upon later this week:
- 15 Mar 2006 [Meridian, MS, USA] concert bootleg of Wilco. One of two bootlegs I processed so that I could send CDs to a friend.
- 10 Oct 2006 [Oxford, MS, USA] concert bootleg of Wilco. This would be the other.
- 6 Nov 1992 [Cincinnati, OH, USA] concert bootleg of Over the Rhine. One of two old-school OtR boots that Jeff gave me for my birthday.
The week before last was solid overall:
Sufjan Steven’s Songs for Christmas has, for some reason, left me a bit cold. Perhaps it’s because I’m just not in the mood for it this year. I’m into more serious stuff this year, probably because of our cantata. It’s still quite good, though; three-and-a-half stars.
Achoo!: An Asthmatic Kitty Sampler, Vol. I came with the Sufjan stuff. Meh. Two stars.
David Grahame’s Supergenius is a disc I bought because Colter told me to do so. I’m glad to have done so; I haven’t given it enough listens, but it’s quite good. Three stars.- 16 Dec 2001 [Nashville, TN, USA] concert bootleg of the Andrew Peterson Christmas Show, Behold the Lamb of God. Three stars; it suffers from having someone other than Derek Webb singing “Deliver Us”. Folks argue that what makes BtLoG is Jill Phillips singing “Labor of Love”, and I agree [and told her so on Thursday], but … Derek’s delivery of “Deliver Us” always gets me. Maybe it’s how he sings “Yahweh hear our cry”. Anyway, thanks go out to Gaines Redd for making this bootleg happen.
- 19 Mar 2006 [St. Louis, MO, USA] concert bootleg of Wilco. Three stars; a good representative of the Spring 2006 tour.

Geof’s New Music: 17-30 Dec 2006…
There was no new music last week. Last week … sucked. We had a roof leak at the office that opened up right over the IT server room. You can just imagine. As a result, it was a fractious mess all last week—we made it through, of course&…
