Geof’s New Music: 24-30 Sep 2006
Another week full of Square Peg-gy goodness, I tell you:
- Arthur Alligood’s Under the Gray, which was produced by Peg Andrew Osenga.
- Jill Phillips’s Nobody’s Got It All Together. Thanks, Jill, for the CD.
- 12-Sep-2006 [Nashville, TN, USA] concert bootleg of Matthew Perryman Jones, who opened for …
- 12-Sep-2006 [Nashville, TN, USA] concert bootleg of Sandra McCracken, who was doing the release show for her new album, Gravity | Love.
Last week was full of good stuff:
- Hem’s Funnel Cloud. I’ve been waiting for this album since I heard Hem back in May and June. It took me a couple of days to warm up to it—I still wish that they’d kick it up a notch a couple times an album—but I’ve found it to be very enjoyable. “The Pills Stopped Working”, where they really do kick it up a notch, does not disappoint. Three-and-a-half stars.
- 16-Jun-2000 [Vienna, VA, USA] concert bootleg of Andrew Peterson. A good AP bootleg. Three stars.
- 31-Jan-2003 [Los Angeles, CA, USA] concert bootleg of Elliott Smith. A decent Elliott bootleg; I have to wonder if he was just depressed at this show, or if he was perhaps intoxicated somehow. It’s hard to listen to, but … well, that’s Elliott at his best, much of the time. Three stars.

“Square Peggy” sounds like the name of a bad lunch lady or hall monitor…
September 25th, 2006 at 09:06I put the dash in there so my friend John, who’s married to a Peggy, doesn’t have to keep her from killing me for calling her square.

Yeah, I took last week off. I needed a break from … well, most everything. [Not that this break really rejuvenated me, but … hey.]
I have two new things:
21-Mar-2006 [Stockholm, Sweden] concert bootleg of The Cardigans.
