My take on Ethan’s complaint here: he’s absolutely right. When a viable community exists, a forum can be a wonderful place. It can also be a royal pain in the ass. Best case? Let the inmates run the asylum: they care about it way more than you do as administrator, and they have the moral incentives to run it well. Most forums, especially those populated by Anglophones and especially those populated by Americans, will quickly adopt a social contract no matter what organizational hierarchy they develop for handling issues.
