Datacenters in Middle America?

Reading about all of Dreamhost’s hellish issues makes me wonder: why are all these major datacenters in major metropolitan areas? The provider I use has DCs in San Antonio and Dallas, which is generally a good idea, I guess, but both of those places get pretty hot pretty regularly, so I’d worry about it.

If I started a DC, I’d think about doing it here close to home. TVA power is cheap. Office space is cheap. The only thing that sucks is the woeful state of fiber backbones in the area. But if not Huntsville or surrounding, I’d think that Nashville would be an excellent choice.

That’s a nightmare (about Dreamhost, that is).

If I would build out a DC, Nashville would be a good choice. I’d also more highly consider an outskirt of Houston or Dallas.
