Okay, I Think That This Web 2.0 Thing Can Die Now

I had someone tell me this morning that a bunch of the sites that I run “are very Web 2.0ish”. I think that this was supposed to be a compliment.

Frankly, nothing that we’re doing is anything we couldn’t have done four years ago. We are breaking very little, if any, new technical ground.

I mean, I think that I was getting el softo soapo, but … ugh.

Bittorrent wasn’t around 4 years ago, was it?

BitTorrent appears to have been around in 2003 [from what digging I can do in two minutes on Wikipedia], but I also wouldn’t call it Web anything.

I got a clarification after this post that my “design” stuff looked Web 2.0. That made me laugh.

I feel like we’re in the dotcom bubble again the way web 2.0 is being thrown around.

The technology is not new (late ’90’s), but apparently the marketing is.

Well, in some ways—and mainly in the marketing of things, yes.
