Geof’s New Music: 9-15 Apr 2006

I have but one new album this week: Andrew Peterson’s Appendix A: Bootlegs & B-Sides, which is only available for a limited time at his Web store. You best get it soon if, like me and Rick, you love AP. My buddy Ron gets co-producer credits for sitting down with a huge box of tapes and doing the sifting and first cut for AP. Kudos, Ron!

Last week was more stuff from some Square Pegs:

  • Andy Gullahorn‘s Room to Breathe. This gets four stars from me; “Green Hills Mall”, “Holy Flakes”, and “Never Let Me Down” are all just awesome. I do not know how I don’t own more of Andy’s stuff.
  • Eric Peters‘s Scarce. This gets four stars from me as well, and the second half of the disc is just … awesome. “Tomorrow”, “Squeeze”, and “Long Road (To Nowhere” are all great cuts. EP, you just keep getting better, brother.
  • Jill Phillips’s Kingdom Come. I’m not much for P&W/hymn albums, but Jill does a really good job with this. I give it three-and-a-half stars.
  • Jill Phillips’s Writing on the Wall. I’ve heard her perform various songs from this over the past couple of years; it was good to hear the studio version. Four stars, and “Wrecking Ball”, “God Believes In You”, and “Grand Design” are the highlights for me.

I commented to Jessica on the beauty of pre-ordered music. By the time it comes, you’ve forgotten about it, and it’s like a surprise gift to yourself :) I’ve not had a chance to listen to Appendix A, but I plan on it later this afternoon.

  2. I figured that you should have yours now, too. It’s definitely worth what I paid AP for it.

I can’t say that I have ever heard of that band.

  4. Of AP or of the Square Pegs?

  5. Mike Escutia says:

The great thing about Andy G is that he packs his CDs, giving you well over an hour of music. It was a nice touch on Old Hat, but I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that he’d done the same thing on Room to Breathe — I think has more tracks than most greatest hits albums. ;)
