Challenger: Twenty Years Ago Right … Now

Godspeed, Challenger. Hard to believe that it’s been 20 years. Challenger is the reason I work in the space program today. That might be a story that you want to read, but … I don’t want to tell it today. Today, I just want to remember.

Scobee.
Smith.
Resnik.
Onizuka.
McNair.
Jarvis.
McAuliffe.

  1. Brad:

You know, I’m really surprised that our local newspaper didn’t mention anything about Challenger except for one sentence in the “this day in history” column. It’s especially surprising given Ellison Onizuka was born and raised on the Big Island, over on the Kona side of the island.

  2. Geof F. Morris:

That really is surprising and disappointing, Brad. I’m disappointed that it’s just not being made into that big of a deal everywhere in the country.

It hasn’t been lost on me that the WH has pushed for Alito’s nomination to be done by Bush’s State of the Union Address, given that Challenger’s demise was driven in large part by a desire to have McAuliffe in orbit during Reagan’s SotUA.
