Back to BellSnot

BellSouth’s move to cut DSL prices has me switching back to them from Knology, whose prices are just totally untenable for me at this point. I wish I could get naked DSL, but even though the Huntsville area is quite high-tech, this is still Alafrickinbama.

The amount of money I’ll be saving is pretty obscene: I’m dropping back to the extended basic cable that I get for free with my homeowners’ association; the digital cable costs I’m paying are not worth the benefit [by a long shot; I should have realized this months ago]. 99% of what I really want to watch is available to me for free, and I’m going to switch to that ASAP. [Hopefully I'll have time to sit through Knology's wheedling to keep me as a customer later this afternoon.]

Yes, I’d say that this month’s resolution has been a winner. [I'm 2/3 of the way done with it, too. :) ]

Holy cow. We’d looked at switching from cable modem to DSL just the other day, and had decided not to because the DSL cost was the same as the cable modem cost.

    Hm hm hm.

  2. Geof F. Morris:

Yeah, the 3.0Mbps down is down to $37.95. There’s the cost of a modem to work into it, but when I consider that I’m paying $9.00/mo. more for Knology’s 1.5Mbps down—not counting my modem rental costs!—it’s just not worth it at all.

  3. Chris (from L.C.):

Bellsouth has stated in thier FISPA communications that they will never offer naked DSL.

However, look for 6Mb before summer (according to what they tell us)

  4. Geof F. Morris:

Yeah, I’ll upgrade to 6Mbps when it’s available in my ‘burb.

  5. Grant:

“BellSnot” eh? Hadn’t heard that one. Around here we just have the Sucky Bell Company…. Funny how that works… :-)

  6. Grant:

You may want to reconsider that move…

You’re the third person to show me that. ;)

I doubt this will fly for very long. Can’t blame ‘em for trying, but … meh.

Once, Bitten; Twice, Very Pissed Off

BellSouth just lost me as a customer.
I got DSL through BellSouth back in January; twice in that time, their billing department has screwed the pooch and disconnected me for no good reason. Seriously: none. This second time, despite multilple calls a…
