The American Christian Paradox

I am glad that Will Willimon posted this (slightly edited) essay from Bill McKibben about how American Christians don’t seem to live as Christ intended. It’s got a lot of social concern stuff in there, but I don’t think this is promoting a social Gospel. Our good works in Christ’s name are an outpouring of Christ’s love in us, which is to say that Jesus’s concerns about the poor and downtrodden should be our concerns.

And yes … being associated with Derek Webb, who writes about many of these themes in his upcoming album, Mockingbird, does have me attuned to all this…
