Water, Water Everywhere …

Well, not really. GlobalIssues.org has a lot of great information on about potable water from a global perspective. It really worries me how some see the answer to the problem of potable water as an area where private business could fill in the gap … because private businesses are about making money, not serving people. Water is a basic need, and when you let businesses try to make money off of basic needs … well, you mess up lots of things at the margin.

And while messing things up at the margin normally isn’t a concern with business—people on the margins of the market can generally suck it, as far as the market cares—telling people needing clean drinking water to suck it is just … inexcusable.

So, the answer is helping local governments to build their own wells and tap into their own water supplies. That’s what 1000 Wells is about, after a fashion. And that’s another reason to support Blood:Water.
