Trash Pickup

You know, I really do wish that I could get a feel for the trash pickup here. I’m pretty sure that PJ told me Mondays and Thursdays, and in watch other folks’ habits, that seems to be the way it works, but … it just doesn’t seem like it happens those days. Last week, folks—including me!—had stuff out on Monday morning. Pickups didn’t happen until Thursday.

This week, people set stuff out on Monday. [I, however, suffered from a critical confluence of the dumbass and oversleeping, and failed to get my stuff to the curb before it'd already been picked up.] Things seemed to disappear during the day. That would probably make it pickup time again today, but … man. I think I heard the truck run at 0600, which it’s never seemed to do before.

I’ll get this rhythm at some point. Maybe. I’m not real good with rhythm—if you’ve ever seen me “dance”, you know that this is so true. [And speaking of rhythms, my sleep rhythm is screwy because ... well, it's me. That, and I took melatonin last night, but I didn't take it until 2330 or so, which means I'm still way sluggish, even though I've been awake and sitting here at the computer for 45 minutes.]

Feh. Time to go spasmodically start my day.

The “trash day” rule in Columbus, Ohio is as follows:

    - Regular trash is collected by the city based on either a color code or a day of the week, depending on your neighborhood. My neighborhood is governed by a color (which I can’t recall), and thus the trash collection day increments with each holiday, including New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (but not Veterans Day). Note there are 9 holidays listed there, so there’s not even a correlation between date and day of week the trash is collected. If, however, you live in an area assigned a set day of the week, your trash day is incremented by one day following a holiday, but returns to its designated day the following week.

    - Recycling and Yard Waste are collected by a sub-contractor, and the collection day is based only on the day of week. My day happens to be Wednesday. This day changes due to holidays too, as described above, as if I happened to lived in a neighborhood following the day of week trash collection scheme…which I don’t. But that scheme applies to recycling or yard waste regardless of where you live.

Consequently, I have two trash days (most of the year), each of which change, differently, the week of or week following holidays.

    I can’t make this shit up…
