I haven't figured out why WP1.5's Plugin API doesn't work like it used to, either. :sigh: I've been contemplating how to re-do something WG like, and I think the answer is in making it poll syndication feeds and aggregate them, using something like Mark Pilgrim's Universal Feed Parser [as it's liberal and will handle errors well] or, at worst, Magpie [which is a strict parser :(].
