Let’s Secede
Y’know, hearing that the Alabama state legislature has seen fit to declare an official state whiskey makes me again contemplate my desire for secession:
Let’s just take all the land north of the Tennessee River and west of the Flint River and become our own state. This gives us Huntsville, Decatur, and the Shoals. The tax revenue of those areas will be enough to support a state that size.

Just before the Civil War, Unionists in northern Alabama and eastern Tennessee talked seriously about seceeding from their respective states and forming a new one that would be loyal to the US. They were going to call the state “Nickajack.”
