Mmmmm … patches.

My computer’s been acting a little wonky of late, and I realized that I hadn’t ever run Windows Update on this machine here at work. Surprise, surprise … there are a ton of patches it needs.

Why our IT people don’t put these patches on their cloning CD’s, I don’t know.

An IT person sayeth, “Because that is non-trivial.”
    1) To keep a cloning CD current, it would have to be updated 2-3 times per week. (Remember, just because Windows Update doesn’t bug you every 2-3 days about updates for your installation doesn’t mean that there aren’t updates for packages, drivers, etc. that are needed for other PCs.)
    2) There’s no good way to apply patches to the installation files on a Windows CD
    3) And why are you using your company’s CDs to re-install your personal laptop…? :-)

    1. Sure.

    2. Suckage.

    3. I am patching my work machine. Well, actually I’ve finished now.
